這是 The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council （EPSRC） 科學攝影比賽的總冠軍及「Equipment and Facilities」組別第一名作品《Single Atom in an Ion Trap》，由來自牛津大學的 David Nadlinger 拍攝。在照片中可以見到在兩個距離約 2mm 的金屬電極之間的一個原子。

照片在 2017 年 8 月 7 日，以 Canon 5D Mark II 單反相機及 EF 50mm f/1.8 鏡頭，配合延伸管和兩盞彩色閃光燈拍攝。David Nadlinger 表示，原子被藍外光照射時，吸收並瞬間重新發射光粒子，他再利用長曝成功拍攝原本用肉眼看不到的原子。
